The process

How It Works

The engagement from first call to certification, and the division of work between your team and ours.

The process

Gap assessment

A 45-minute review of your current program against all 14 elements, with a written, scored report. It is free, and it is how we quote accurately rather than guessing.

Week 1 · No cost

Program build

We interview your supervisors and write the documented system around how your crews actually work: policy, procedures, forms, training matrix and document control. Your people review and sign off on the result.

Onboarding

Registration and training

We register you with IHSA and book the required courses, including the four for the employee you designate as internal auditor. We help you choose a person likely to hold the role for the full certification cycle.

Onboarding

The monthly cycle

Each month we issue toolbox talk content, distribute and collect inspection forms, track training expiries, follow corrective actions to closure, and file every record against the element it supports. When paperwork is late, we follow up with your supervisors directly.

Ongoing

Audit preparation

We assemble the evidence package, run mock audits, prepare your internal auditor, and brief your crews on the questions external auditors ask. We also handle documentation requests from general contractors during prequalification.

Pre-certification

Maintenance

Certification runs on a three-year cycle, with internal maintenance audits in years two and three and a full external audit in year four. The monthly work continues at a reduced scope, and we carry you through each maintenance submission.

After certification

Division of work

A COR program cannot be outsourced entirely. The external auditor visits your sites and interviews your workers, so part of the program must be carried by your own team. The split below is set out in every engagement before anything is signed.

Your team handles

Cannot be outsourced

  • Designating a permanent full-time employee as internal auditor and sending them to IHSA training. The role cannot be filled by us or by any other outside firm.
  • Carrying out the site inspections
  • Running the toolbox talks
  • Answering the external auditor's questions on site
  • Management attendance at review meetings
  • Telling us how the work is actually done, so the documents are accurate

Where our work stops

We do not conduct site inspections, approve or certify anything, act as your internal auditor, or guarantee an outcome. The reasoning behind each limit is set out on the FAQ.
